Tropical Storm Sandra is moving west-northwest in the Pacific Ocean and forecast to touch the Southern Baja Peninsula Saturday and move into the Mexican state of Sinaloa later this weekend. The storm is expected to strengthen to a hurricane on Wednesday, but weaken before coming into contact with Baja and weaken further before making landfall in mainland Mexico. Heavy rain is possible and may move into the Southern Plains of the U.S. early next week.

• Culiacan, in the Mexican state of Sinaloa, is the major winter growing region for several commodities including bell peppers, chile peppers, cucumbers, hard squash, tomatoes, and watermelon
• Lower yields and delayed harvesting dates were already forecast as a result of an active hurricane season in September and October
• Heavy rains may further lower yields in crops forecast to be harvested in two to three weeks; expect higher prices during this time
• Seasonal production in Southern Baja has ended
