UPDATE: Tropical Storm Nate

Tropical Storm Nate is currently located 230 miles south-southeast of Cozumel, Mexico over the Caribbean Sea north of Honduras and is expected to move northwest to the Gulf Coast.

  • Heavy rain continues to fall across parts of Central America with tropical storm force winds reaching 45 mph
  • Depending on the severity of the storm, cantaloupe and honeydew production in Guatemala may see a seven day delay from the projected start date of November 13
  • Melon plantings in Honduras typically occur at this time, but conditions may delay start dates from mid-December to mid-January
  • The storm is projected to strengthen and make landfall along the northern Gulf Coast late Saturday night or early Sunday as a hurricane or tropical storm
