A tropical storm is being tracked in the Pacific Ocean; it is forecast to make its way across Central Mexico this weekend and move into the Gulf of Mexico by early next week. A tropical depression is likely to form in the next one to two days, bringing heavy rain (10 to 14 inches in some regions), thunderstorms, and flash flooding to several areas in Mexico. Damage to young plants could cause supply shortages and high prices for December and January.

• The western state of Jalisco, Mexico is home to winter chile pepper, hard squash, and watermelon production; neighboring Colima produces almost half of Mexico’s key lime crop
• If storm activity travels towards the Gulf of Mexico it could move through crops that are harvested for import into South Texas such as carrots, chile peppers, and Persian limes
