UPDATE: TOMATOES

November 18, 2020

Tomato prices remain elevated; demand exceeds supply. Heavy rain, mixed with high heat and strong winds, have damaged fruit and reduced yields in Florida’s growing regions. Expect active markets and tight supplies over the next four weeks.

  • Florida has resumed harvesting after heavy rain and strong winds from Tropical Storm Eta
    • Central Florida has suffered crop loss from extreme rain in the Palmetto and Ruskin growing regions
    • Quality will be impacted; soft spots and decay are concerns
    • Yields are below normal
  • Contract trigger levels have been met; Act of God clauses are being implemented
  • Mexico shipments are below normal; increased volume is not expected until mid-December when new crop harvesting starts
