Tomato prices will rise over the next two weeks due to challenging growing conditions in California and Mexico, combined with uncertainty over Hurricane Irma’s impact in Florida.

• Excessive temperatures in California’s San Joaquin Valley over the past week have limited the production of field-grown tomatoes
• Rainfall and overcast skies along the Baja, Mexico peninsula as well as the Northeastern mainland have slowed harvests, and decreased crossings into the US
• Hurricane Irma is forecast to reach Florida by early Sunday
  • Plantings are underway in the southern growing region of Immokalee
  • Fields located in Central and Northern Florida, as well as Georgia are further along in maturity, and would see the greatest impact if the hurricane tracks as currently forecast
