Although growers are transitioning to summer growing regions in Mexico and Florida, overall supplies remain ample. Grape tomato and round tomato prices are higher this week, but Roma prices are steady.

Tuesday, May 7 marked the end of the United States’ involvement in the Tomato Suspension Agreement with Mexico. All Mexican tomatoes imported into the U.S. now include a 17.56% tariff; moving forward, importers will include this new tariff in their open-market pricing.

• Mexico’s winter crop is winding down; new crop summer supplies are now shipping
• East Coast domestic stocks will transition from Florida to Georgia and the Carolinas in late May/early June
• California supplies will begin shipping in mid-June
• Expect active tomato prices for the rest of May while crops transition and the new Mexican import policies are fully understood
