Broccoli

  • Markon First Crop (MFC) Broccoli Crowns are sporadic
  • Quality issues include brown bead, hollow core, and pin rot
  • Mexican supplies are limited as rain is impacting the growing region
  • Processor demand will increase and push up prices

Cantaloupe and Honeydew

  • Cantaloupe supplies from California’s San Joaquin Valley are limited due to weather challenges early in the season
  • Honeydew stocks are adequate, but prices are expected to inch up next week
  • Overall quality is good; shelf-life is normal with few issues being reported
  • MFC Cantaloupes and Honeydews are limited

Lettuce and Leafy Greens

  • Above-normal temperatures and humid conditions continue to diminish volume; quality concerns in iceberg and romaine are reducing available yields 
  • Processors have begun purchasing additional fields to fill orders
  • Local regional programs along the East Coast will wrap up in the coming weeks, moving demand to the West Coast

Limes

  • Recent rain in the primary growing region of Veracruz, Mexico has slightly alleviated drought conditions and increased overall stocks
  • Large sizes are expected to increase as Mexico gets more rain in the coming weeks
  • Expect prices to continue easing through September, pending any significant storms in Veracruz, Mexico
