Broccoli

  • Warm, humid conditions in the Salinas and Santa Maria, California growing regions have resulted in quality issues that are reducing yields
  • Markets are expected to remain elevated over the next several weeks

California Strawberries

Salinas/Watsonville

  • As the season winds down, high temperatures and humidity have decreased berry size and diminished quality
  • Yields are low as crews must strip soft-textured or decayed, poor-quality fruit

Santa Maria

  • Volume is increasing after a period of high temperatures
  • Cooler weather in the forecast will encourage growth and increase size
  • Orders will be moved to this region for optimal quality and shelf-life

Lettuce and Leafy Greens

  • Above-normal temperatures and humid conditions continue to diminish volume
  • Quality concerns are reducing iceberg and leafy greens yields; processors have begun purchasing additional fields to meet demand
  • Local regional programs along the East Coast will wrap up in the coming weeks, moving demand to the West Coast
