UPDATE SUMMARY: WEEK OF NOVEMBER 27, 2017

Melons

  • Cantaloupe and honeydew prices will increase over the next two weeks
  • Markon First Crop (MFC) Melons are not packed during the offshore season
  • Supplies are available in Florida and will be on the California market by next week
  • Mexican-grown cantaloupes are available through mid-December; Mexican-grown honeydews will be available through the winter season

Strawberries

  • MFC Strawberries are not available; Markon Best Available and packer label are being substituted
  • New crop strawberries are on the market in Florida and Mexico, where quality is better
  • California quality and supply levels are being affected by wet weather
  • Prices are fairly steady

Tomatoes

  • Florida round tomato supplies are below average through late December; extra-large sizes will be especially limited
  • Mexican grown vine-ripe tomato supplies are scarce; winter production will ramp up by early January
  • Mexican roma supplies are sufficient; increasing demand will push prices higher
  • Expect elevated markets to continue through December
