UPDATE SUMMARY: Week of November 14, 2016

November 17, 2016

Grapes:

  • Markon First Crop (MFC) Lunch Bunch Grapes and Markon Essentials Red Seedless Grapes are available
  • Overall quality is very good
  • California production has ended; supplies will ship from storage through mid- to late December
  • New crop Chilean and Peruvian stocks are expected on the market by late December
  • Expect higher prices for green seedless supplies than for red seedless varieties due to lower volume

Limes:

  • MFC Limes are available from Mexico (loading in McAllen, Texas)
  • Crops grown in Veracruz will become limited as the winter season nears; production will slow and harvesting windows will tighten
  • Current quality is excellent, but as stocks diminish, fruit will require more sorting for problems like discoloration and scarring
  • Prices will rise into the mid-teens and could reach the low 20s by late November

Strawberries:

  • A limited supply of MFC Strawberries are available in Santa Maria, California; Markon Best Available is being substituted as needed
  • California stocks are limited; Markon recommends moving orders to South Texas next week for best coverage
  • Quality has improved due to drier conditions, but cooler-than-normal temperatures are keeping yields low
  • The market is slightly lower compared to last week, but overall demand exceeds supply
