Limes

  • There is an atypically significant price spread between large- and small-size fruit
  • Lower-than-normal amounts of rain in the primary growing region of Veracruz, Mexico have affected maturity of 110- and 150-count supplies; 230 and 250-count sizes are more plentiful
  • Expect elevated prices for large limes over the next four to six weeks; the market for smaller sizes will ease

California Strawberries

  • Markon First Crop (MFC) Strawberries are available in Santa Maria; quality is very good  
  • New crop Salinas/Watsonville supplies are ramping up; MFC Strawberies will be available the week of May 19
  • The Oxnard growing season will end over the next several weeks; most suppliers have stopped harvesting for the season
  • Ample stocks are keeping prices steady at low levels
