UPDATE SUMMARY: WEEK OF MAY 21 , 2018

Cauliflower

  • Quality is good
  • Supplies are improving
  • Prices are down

Onions

  • Washington Markon First Crop (MFC) Yellow Onions will remain available through the end of May, however MFC Red Onion shipments will end next week  
  • California Fresh-run MFC Red and Yellow Onions are readily available
  • Texas-grown, fresh-run MFC Onions will be on the market through late May   
  • New Mexico MFC Red and Yellow Onions will be available the week of May 28

Romaine

  • Markon First Crop (MFC) Premium Romaine Lettuce is readily available    
  • Overall romaine quality is good    
  • Demand has dropped 10-15% since the Centers for Disease Control issued an Advisory on chopped romaine out of Yuma, Arizona on April 13
  • Prices are expected to remain low for the next few weeks; summer season is expected to remain at a depressed market

Rain in Florida

  • Heavy rains will persist through Sunday, May 20, as bells, cucumbers, and squash seasons will wrap up this week in South Florida
  • Markets for green bell peppers remain elevated; supplies are very tight
  • Bell pepper prices will ease the week of May 28 once Georgia production ramps up
  • Tomato prices are on the rise due to harvesting being curtailed
