UPDATE SUMMARY: WEEK OF MARCH 5, 2018

Cauliflower
- Supplies are limited due to cooler-than-normal growing conditions
- The market is rising
Lettuce and Leafy Greens Outlook
- Growers of variety lettuces and leafy greens are transitioning north; iceberg lettuce will follow the week of March 19
- Shipments will continue out of the Arizona/California desert through early April
- Prices are expected to remain high over the next few weeks due to Easter holiday demand and recent cold weather
- Quality is expected to improve and pricing to ease in late April
Limes
- Markon First Crop and Markon Essentials Limes are available
- Supplies remain fairly limited in Mexico; prices have peaked and are beginning to ease
- Smaller sized fruit (200- to 250-count) will begin to dominate the marketplace over the next few weeks
- Yields remain low; demand is strong
- Expect overall elevated prices through late March/early April, when new crop supplies ramp up
Romaine
- February’s abnormally cold weather conditions slowed plant growth in the San Joaquin/Salinas Valley and the Yuma, Arizona regions
- Quality issues like blistering, peeling and tip burn may be seen due to recent cold weather
- Supplies are limited
- The market is rising
Tomatoes
- Supplies are very light due to cold temps in Mexico; availability of ripe fruit is very limited
- Markets on the East Coast will follow Mexican upward trend as demand increases
- Expect to see pricing move up slightly on round and roma tomatoes over the coming weeks
