Avocados
-
California fruit is available, but extremely limited
- Crop estimates are down approximately 50% due to last summer’s warmer-than-normal temperatures that caused severe bloom drop (affecting this summer’s crop)
- All sizes are scarce
- Expect elevated markets through mid-July, when summer volume will increase in Mexico
Colored Potatoes
- California: Reduced acreage and unseasonably cold, wet weather has reduced volume
- Colorado: The season is ending; new crop stocks will be available in late August
- Eastern Shore: Production will start in North Carolina and Virginia the week of June 24
- Florida: Abnormally warm and humid weather brought the season to an early end
- Idaho: Supplies remain limited
- Texas: Adverse weather conditions have limited supplies, but volume will increase by mid-July
Iceberg Lettuce
- Processors must harvest more acres than normal to fill commodity and value-added orders
- Regional seasons will begin next month in Colorado, Eastern Canada, and the Northeastern U.S.; however, past and current adverse weather conditions will delay their normal start dates
- Lower yields are forecast in all growing areas; demand will continue to exceed supply through early July
Green Leaf, Iceberg, and Romaine
- Quality issues are being reported from the fields; expect lower harvestable yields in the coming weeks
- Supplies have also decreased due to gaps in planting schedules
- Prices continue to rise, stocks will remain tight for the next couple of weeks
Green Beans
- Ready-Set-Serve Trimmed Green Beans are limited; packer label will be substituted as needed
- High temperatures have diminished supplies in the growing regions of Texas, Georgia, and North Carolina
- The Ohio season is delayed due to record rainfall; the new expected start date is mid-July
- Expect elevated markets and low volume through July
