UPDATE SUMMARY: WEEK OF JULY 20, 2020

Grapes
- Markon First Crop (MFC) Red Seedless and Lunch Bunch Grapes are currently in the Flame variety
- MFC Green Seedless Grapes are the Ivory variety at this time
- Pricing will gradually decrease as harvesting ramps up
- Quality is very good
Limes

High temperatures and rain in the primary growing region of Veracruz, Mexico are causing quality issues and reducing yields
- Suppliers are culling more damaged fruit than normal
- High-quality fruit is commanding elevated prices

Tropical Storm Hanna will further tighten supplies this week as many shipments are being delayed
- Flooding and power outages have impacted a few packing sheds in South Texas
- Inbound and outbound shipments have been affected
- Expect prices to continue rising into next week
Onions
- Supplies will ship out of California’s San Joaquin Valley through mid-August; the New Mexico season will run concurrently
- The Colorado season will start in mid-August
- Utah-grown stocks will become available in early September
- Northwest onions will have a rounder, more globe-like shape than stocks shipped during the spring/summer months; these early season stocks will still exhibit thin, light-colored skins until packed out of storage
Potatoes
Storage Crop
- Burbank quality remains good; pressure bruising and hollow heart may be seen on occasion
- Pricing will remain elevated as supply does not meet current demand
New Crop Norkotahs and Burbanks
- The U.S. No. 2 potato supply will be scarce, as new crop potatoes exhibit very few defects during the early stages of harvesting
- Quality in test digs is excellent: minor skinning and excess moisture may be observed in fresh-run potatoes
- New crop potatoes have not gone through the sweat process yet
- New crop Burbank production will begin in late September/early October
