Heat in the Arizona//California Desert Region

Markon First Crop (MFC) Premium Green Leaf, Iceberg, and Romaine Lettuce supplies are available; quality is very good
- Record-high temperatures hit the Arizona/California desert region earlier this week causing quality issues
- Harvesting crews have worked diligently to remove defects and leave affected heads behind
- Arizona/California desert region iceberg, leafy green, and mixed leaf item growth is ahead of schedule by 10 to 14 days
Limes
- MFC Limes are available from Mexico (loading in McAllen, Texas)
- Prices are rising due to heavy rainfall in Mexico
- Excessive moisture can lead to increased stylar/end break down in raw product
- Retail demand will increase this weekend for Super Bowl LII; the market should remain elevated through March
Pears
- MFC Washington D’Anjou Pears are available; quality is excellent
- Washington Bartlett pear supplies will be depleted next week
- The new crop 2018-2019 Bartlett pear season is expected to start in mid-August
- 2018-2019 new crop D’Anjou production is forecast to begin late August
