Bell Peppers, Cucumbers, and Squash
West Coast
- Markon First Crop (MFC) Bell Peppers, Cucumbers, and Squash are available in Mexico (into Nogales, Arizona)
- Below-average temperatures and recent rain showers are delaying Mexican production this week, affecting quality
- Crop growth will slow and yields will decrease
- Prices will continue to rise for the next 7-10 days and then stabilize when weather improves
East Coast
- MFC Green Bell Peppers, Cucumbers, and Squash are available in Florida
- Weather is ideal in Florida for peppers and squash; quality is good
- Limited Mexican supplies will increase demand and prices in Florida
- Markets will remain elevated into next week
California Strawberries
- MFC Strawberries are sporadic; Markon Best Available and packer label is being substituted as needed
- Quality is very good; however, rain-related issues are expected by the weekend
- Supplies are limited; cold weather has slowed production
- California prices are expected to climb as supplies tighten
Cauliflower
- Supplies are limited due to cooler-than-normal weather
- Quality is good: occasional bruising and creamy color are slight issues
- The market is rising
Lettuce and Leafy Greens
- MFC Premium Green Leaf, Iceberg, and Romaine are available in Yuma, Arizona
- The Arizona/California desert region experienced below-average temperatures this week
- Prices are higher; expect markets to stabilize next week as warmer weather returns
- More market activity is forecast in mid-March, as growers make the transition north to Huron, California followed by the Salinas Valley
