Bell Peppers
- The market is rising
- Recent inclement weather in the primary growing regions of Mexico has affected overall supply levels
- Red and yellow bell pepper prices are especially higher
- Expect active markets for the next two to three weeks
Broccoli and Iceberg
- Demand continues to exceed supply; prices remain elevated
- Abnormally low temperatures slowed plant maturity and decreased yields last week, further depleting volume
- Temperatures are expected to climb this week, increasing stocks
Celery
- Overall acreage in the Arizona and California growing regions is below normal this season
- Inclement weather in Oxnard, California continues to create quality concerns that are reducing volume
- The Salinas Valley is on schedule to start harvests in early June; supplies will increase
- Expect high celery prices and tight stocks through May
Onions
- Markon First Crop Red and Yellow Onions are readily available in the Northwest
- Limited supplies of fresh-run Mexican red, yellow, and white onions are now available in Texas
- Northwest white onions continue to be in strong demand
- Texas-grown, fresh-run onions will become available in late March
- The Colorado season will end next week
Strawberries
- Erratic weather is limiting supplies in the California, Florida, and South Texas growing regions
- Most Mexican suppliers have ended production for the season, while the Florida season is beginning to wind down, further depleting volume
- Prices are rising
