UPDATE SUMMARY: WEEK OF DECEMBER 2, 2019

Bell Peppers
  • Red and yellow bell pepper supplies are extremely limited, expect elevated prices for two to three more weeks
  • Green bell pepper stocks are abundant, keeping price low 
 
Strawberries
  • Rain has impacted California’s main strawberry growing regions, heavily affecting quality and supply
  • New crop Mexican stocks are available for loading in South Texas and Yuma, Arizona 
  • New crop Florida berries have begun shipping in a limited way
    • Markon First Crop Strawberries in one- and two-pound clamshells will be available in mid- to late December
Tomatoes
  • All varieties of tomato supplies are tightening due to rain in Mexico’s Baja Peninsula
  • Lower volume is expected for the next three to four weeks until new crop production begins in mainland Mexico
  • Rain-related quality issues are reducing yields; Markon recommends ordering for quick turns
  • Expect elevated markets and tight supplies of all varieties through December
