UPDATE SUMMARY: WEEK OF AUGUST 3, 2020

Bell Peppers
- California production is transitioning from the San Joaquin Valley to other regions such as Stockton, Hollister, and Oxnard, California
- Pricing remains lower on the East Coast; supplies are ramping up out of Canada and Michigan
- Expect slightly higher markets heading into next week, followed by stable prices by the end of that week
- Red bell prices remain steady; overall supplies are sufficient
Cucumbers

Baja, Mexico is the primary growing region for West Coast cucumbers at this time of year
- Cool weather has slowed production
- Many suppliers are experiencing a partial harvesting gap; growers will increase production in two to three weeks
- West Coast demand will shift to the East Coast, pushing prices up

Michigan is the primary growing region for East Coast cucumbers
- Supplies are adequate
- Quality is average for this time of year; domestic shelf-life is typically shorter than that for Mexican product (order for quick turns)
- Expect limited stocks and rising prices for the next two to three weeks
Iceberg and Romaine
- Foodservice demand for iceberg and romaine is inconsistent, but growing overall compared to past weeks
- Iceberg quality is excellent: field weights and yields are increasing
- Romaine quality is strong: occasional fringe and internal burn is present in some lots
- The effects of Tropical Storm Isaias is expected to impact East Coast stocks, shifting more demand to the West Coast
- Barring any significant COVID developments, expect elevated romaine markets and softer iceberg prices over the next two to three weeks
