UPDATE SUMMARY: WEEK OF APRIL 29, 2019

May 02, 2019

Broccoli and Cauliflower
  • Broccoli and cauliflower prices are elevated due to gaps in planting schedules that occurred during the winter
  • These gaps have delayed harvesting and reduced stocks
  • Expect markets to fluctuate over the next several weeks

Brussels Sprouts

  • There are currently two primary Brussels sprout growing regions in North America
    • Mexico – Baja, California
    • California – Central Coast (Oxnard and Santa Maria)
  • Yields are lower in both California and Mexico; winter rain and cold weather stunted crop growth
  • Expect high prices and extremely limited supplies through mid-June

Cantaloupe and Honeydew Melons

  • The offshore season is winding down; shipments will continue arriving on the East Coast through May
    • Cantaloupe prices are elevated; stocks are limited
    • Honeydew markets are stable; supplies are adequate
  • Mexican cantaloupe and honeydew melons will be shipped as needed until domestic supplies ramp up
  • Markon First Crop Cantaloupes and Honeydews will be available the week of May 20
