UPDATE SUMMARY: WEEK OF APRIL 20, 2020

Asparagus
- Production is winding down in Baja and Mexicali, Mexico
- Expect tight stocks until May, when harvesting starts in Central Mexico
- Quality is good: spears are deep green and tips are tight
- Markets will remain elevated through mid-May
Brussels Sprouts
- Rain has affected quality in Mexico
- Insect pressure is also reducing finished product yields
- Prices are rising
Idaho Potatoes
- Idaho 40- to 90-count cartons are abundant
- Storage crop quality is very good, but pressure bruising and hollow heart have been sporadic in large sizes (40- to 80-count potatoes)
- 5/10-pound, 10/5-pound, and 6/8-pound retail bales are readily available
- New crop harvesting is forecast to begin on August 3
Onions
- Storage crop Markon First Crop (MFC) Onions from the Northwest will remain on the market into early May
- Expect diminishing quality in storage shipments as the season wraps up
- The California onion season has started; fresh-run onions have feathery skins and light color when compared to Northwest storage onions
- Texas-grown, fresh-run MFC Onions are being shipped
- New Mexican onions will enter the market the week of May 11
Tomatoes

Mexico’s winter season is coming to an end; supplies are tight
- Roma and round tomato stocks are below typical levels
- Failed tomato border inspections have further reduced crossings into the U.S.
- Spring production in Baja, Mexico remains several weeks away
- Florida’s spring crop has struggled to reach any significant volume; however, supplies are expected to steadily increase over the next few weeks
