UPDATE: Strawberry Transition to Santa Maria

September 19, 2019

Markon First Crop Strawberries are available. The Salinas/Watsonville season is winding down quickly. Supplies from Santa Maria, California’s fall crop are limited, but will increase weekly, as the season moves into full swing.

  • There is currently a two-tiered market in the Salinas/Watsonville and Santa Maria growing regions
  • Salinas/Watsonville volume and quality is diminishing, pushing demand for higher-quality fruit to Santa Maria
  • New crop Santa Maria berries are more resilient than the older Salinas/Watsonville crops, which will help it maintain quality and shelf-life during the high temperatures forecast for the next 7 to 10 days
