UPDATE: STRAWBERRIES TRANSITION TO SANTA MARIA

The Salinas/Watsonville season is winding down quickly. Markon First Crop (MFC) Strawberries will be available in Santa Maria, California starting Monday, September 21, 2020. Stocks are extremely limited in all California growing regions.
Salinas/Watsonville
- The season is past peak production; expect extremely limited supplies
- Small sizes dominate availability
- Quality concerns include bleeding, bruising, pin rot, small size, softness, and reduced shelf-life
- Strong markets are anticipated through September
Santa Maria
- MFC Strawberries will be available starting Monday, September 21, 2020
- Supplies will remain tight through the balance of September as growers work through their first fields of the season
- Early fields are still recovering from the recent heatwave
- Strong markets are anticipated through September
The past two heatwaves on California’s Central Coast have taken a toll on strawberry plants. Driscoll’s is anticipating as much as a 50% decrease in yields through the rest of September.
