UPDATE: STRAWBERRIES

December 17, 2020

Expect tight California supplies over the next two to three weeks as Santa Maria’s fall season winds down and Oxnard’s winter harvesting begins.

Santa Maria

  • Production is forecast to end over the next 7 to 10 days
  • Quality is good, but cold mornings/evenings are delaying the coloring process
  • The market is two-tiered; growers are making deals on older/sub-par fruit to keep coolers clear
  • Cold-chain management remains a vital component in maximizing shelf-life

Oxnard

  • The winter crop continues its slow start due to low temperatures; early season supplies remain limited
  • Volume is expected to pick up over the next two weeks
  • Mexican fruit will be available in Oxnard starting next week to supplement California’s shortfall

Mexico

  • Markon Best Available (MBA) Strawberries are available
  • Supplies are increasing
  • Quality is good

Florida

  • MBA Strawberries are available
  • Supplies remain limited as fields continue to see cold, wet mornings
  • Quality is good
