UPDATE: STRAWBERRIES
September 14, 2020
Recent high temperatures are affecting strawberry supplies; pricing will continue to increase. Stocks are expected to remain tight through September.
- Markon First Crop Strawberries are available out of Salinas/Watsonville and Santa Maria
- The Salinas/Watsonville season is past peak production with Santa Maria expected to ramp up in the next five to seven days
- Due to recent heat, we can expect fruit size to be smaller than normal for the next 10 to 14 days
- Quality concerns to be on the lookout for include bleeding, bruising, pin rot, small size, softness, and reduced shelf-life
- Cold-chain management remains a vital component of maximizing shelf-life
