UPDATE: STRAWBERRIES
August 19, 2020
Prices are climbing. Quality has been challenged due to abnormally high temperatures in the Salinas/Watsonville and Santa Maria growing regions. Cold-chain management remains a vital component of maximizing shelf-life.
- Markon First Crop Strawberries are available
- Hot weather is expected to affect quality and decrease fruit size
- Quality concerns for the next two weeks include bleeding, bruising, pin rot, small size, softness, and reduced shelf-life
- The Santa Maria growing region has started production of their fall crop, with very limited numbers being harvested; stocks will ramp up by mid-September
