UPDATE: STRAWBERRIES

August 11, 2020

Supplies are increasing in the Salinas/Watsonville, California growing region. Higher-than-normal day and nighttime temperatures are raising volume, but could affect quality in some lots. Cold-chain management remains a vital component of maximizing shelf-life.

  • Markon First Crop Strawberries are available
  • Warm weather is expected to affect quality and decrease fruit size
  • Expect bleeding, bruising, over-ripeness, pin rot, small size, softness, and reduced shelf-life over the next two weeks
  • The Santa Maria growing region has started limited production; stock will ramp up in September
