UPDATE: Strawberries

November 27, 2017

Markon First Crop (MFC) Strawberries are not available; Markon Best Available (MBA) and packer label are being substituted. California growing regions received rain this past weekend, causing concerns for decay, mold, and reduced shelf-life. New crop strawberries are on the market in Florida and Mexico, where quality is better.

  • California quality and supply levels are being affected by wet weather
    • Santa Maria and Oxnard supplies are decreasing
    • Many growers are keeping fruit on the West Coast this week due to quality; Markon recommends ordering for very quick turns
  • New crop Florida berries are being harvested in a limited way
  • MBA Strawberries will be available in one- and two-pound clamshells in three weeks
  • The season will run through late February/early March
  • Supplies are adequate; prices are high
  • A limited supply of MBA Strawberries are available in one- and four-pound clamshells
  • Quality is strongest here (compared to the other growing regions)
  • New crop Mexican strawberries are available for loading in South Texas
  • Prices are fairly steady due to overall tight supplies on the market
