UPDATE: Strawberries

Prices are low in Florida and Mexico; quality is fair. The Mexican season is winding down. Markon recommends loading quality berries out of California.
Southern California
- A limited supply of Markon First Crop (MFC) Strawberries are available; Markon Best Available (MBA) is being substituted as needed
- Quality is good despite last week’s light showers
- Texture is firm
- Sizes range from medium to large; counts average 13 to 22 berries per 1-pound clamshell
- Two- and four-pound clamshells are available also
- Ideal weather for the next 10 days will increase supplies; no rain is forecast
- Prices are expected to remain steady this week
Mexico (into South Texas)
- MFC and MBA Strawberries are not available; packer label 8/1-pound supplies will be substituted
- Quality is fair: bruising and small size are minor issues
- Texture is fairly-firm
- Warm temperatures have decreased size; counts average 22 to 28 berries per 1-pound clamshell
- Only one-pound clamshells are on the market
- The season is winding down; many suppliers will finish their harvest by this weekend
- Prices will remain low
Florida
- Quality is fair: bruising and decay are problems
- Texture is fairly-firm
- Size is medium to medium-plus; counts average 15 to 22 berries per 1-pound clamshell
- One- and two-pound clamshells are available
- The season is expected to continue through Easter Sunday, March 27
- Rain and thunderstorms on Wednesday, February 24 may further impact quality
- Prices are expected to remain low
- Stocks are abundant
