Several storm systems are affecting weather conditions in areas of the U.S. as well as Mexico. Severe weather will sweep through the Upper Midwest and the Southeast over the next 48 hours, bringing rain, damaging winds, and hail. On the West Coast, Hurricane Dolores will continue to strengthen; rain is expected over the Baja Peninsula and into some areas of California on Friday, July 17 and Saturday, July 18.

East Coast

• Heavy rain, damaging winds, and hail are forecast to move into Tennessee today before developing in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia by Wednesday, July 15
• The expansive system will also bring high winds and showers into Michigan  
• Summer bell pepper, cucumber, eggplant, green bean, squash, and tomato crops are concentrated in Michigan, North Carolina, and Tennessee; tomato crops are focused in Virginia and other regional areas
• Higher-than-normal temperatures in mid-June ended spring production ahead of schedule, resulting in limited supplies, especially bell peppers
• Any damage or harvesting delays resulting from this system will tighten already sporadic supplies and increase prices

Baja Peninsula

• Hurricane Dolores is moving along the southwest coast of mainland Mexico with a northwest trajectory
• Though the system is forecast to pass south of the Baja peninsula, rain and high winds are expected to hit the region
• Crops including bell peppers, chile peppers, cucumbers, squash, and tomatoes are grown in this region
• Minimal damage is expected, but Markon will continue to monitor this system
