UPDATE: SQUASH

July 27, 2021

Zucchini and yellow squash prices have risen this week due to strong demand. Poor weather is the main factor.

  • Rain has slowed production in the East Coast regions of Michigan, New Jersey, and North Carolina
    • Quality is good
    • Yellow squash supplies are tightening
  • Smaller summer local/regional deals across the country are supplementing supplies
  • California’s Central Valley is experiencing excessive heat which may impact production this week
    • Santa Maria volume is steady
    • Overall quality is good
  • High heat is reducing harvesting time in Mexico’s Baja Peninsula
  • Expect stocks to increase next week and prices should soften
