Heavy winds and cooler-than-normal temperatures have slowed squash production this past week and significantly reduced yields. Supplies are very light in all regions; markets are on the rise.

West Coast

• Markon First Crop (MFC) Squash from Mexico (into Nogales, Arizona) is limited; packer label is being substituted as needed
• Cooler-than-normal temperatures and strong winds in the primary growing region of Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico have caused bloom drop, scarring, and very light pollination
• Product is exhibiting irregular sizing and scarring issues
• Expect elevated markets for the next 7-10 days; markets will ease with favorable weather in the forecast
• The Nogales season is expected to continue through mid- to late May

East Coast

• MFC Squash from Florida is limited; packer label is being substituted as needed
• Florida production is transitioning north; supplies are light as new crop supplies ramp up
• Strong winds have caused more misshapen and scarring issues than normal
• Greater demand from lack of supplies crossing from Mexico are increasing markets in Florida
• Pricing will remain elevated through next week
