UPDATE: Spring Transition 2015
The spring transition from the Arizona/California desert region to the San Joaquin Valley (Huron, California) and Salinas Valley is approaching. Huron growers will begin harvesting green leaf, iceberg, and romaine as early as March 9. Salinas Valley growers will start production in late March/early April.
Below are approximate transition dates based on current supplies and maturity:
Week of March 9
• Limited harvesting of packer label green leaf, iceberg, and romaine will begin in Huron
• Markon First Crop (MFC) Green Leaf, Iceberg, and Romaine will be harvested in Yuma, Arizona
Week of March 16
• Limited quantities of MFC Green Leaf, Iceberg, and Romaine will harvested in Huron; transfers to Yuma will be available
• MFC Green Leaf, Iceberg, and Romaine will continue to be harvested in Yuma
• MFC Celery will continue to be harvested in Oxnard; transfers to Yuma and Salinas will be available
• MFC Broccoli will be harvested in Salinas; transfers to Yuma will be available
Week of March 30
• MFC Green Leaf, Iceberg, and Romaine will not be available in Yuma, Arizona
• MFC Green Leaf, Iceberg, and Romaine will be harvested in Huron; transfers to Yuma and Salinas will be available
• Limited harvesting of packer label green leaf, iceberg, and romaine will begin in Salinas
• Ready-Set-Serve (RSS) Washed & Trimmed items and cello-wrapped products will be processed in Salinas; transfers to Yuma will be available
Week of April 6
• All MFC Green Leaf, Iceberg, and Romaine will be harvested in Salinas; transfers to Yuma will be available
• Packer label green leaf, iceberg, and romaine will also be harvested in Salinas
Week of April 20
• RSS salad items will be processed in Salinas
• All MFC and RSS items will be available to load in Salinas
