UPDATE: SEVERE WEATHER IMPACTS SUPPLY CHAIN

February 16, 2021

Extremely low temperatures will continue to affect the produce supply chain this week. Heavy ice, rain, snow, and windstorms across the Southwest, Midwest, and Northeast will cause delays and late deliveries.

  • South Texas continues to face challenges due to border shutdowns, road closures, and power outages
    • Rolling power outages persist throughout the state of Texas
    • Sheds and distribution centers cannot receive or ship product without power
    • Most South Texas shipments have been pushed back two to four days
  • Regional processors and repackers in the Midwest are also impacted by road closures
    • Many local and regional shipments are delayed
    • Raw product inbound arrivals have been sporadic
    • “Level 3” road conditions due to ice and snow have closed non-emergency travel in many counties
  • Expect West Coast shipments to experience delays en route to the Southwest, Midwest, Northeast, and Southeast distribution centers; long haul trucks have had to pull over and wait for road conditions to improve
