UPDATE: REDUCED STRAWBERRY SUPPLIES

March 17, 2021

Markets continue to strengthen. Recent hail/rain has significantly reduced supplies in the California growing regions. Harvesting in Mexico and Florida is winding down.

Oxnard/Santa Maria, California

  • Markon First Crop Strawberries are available
  • Weather forecasts call for light rain this upcoming Friday morning, along with continued low evening/morning temperatures (in the 30◦-40◦ F range)
    • Although quality is good, fruit color is taking longer than normal to reach specification levels
    • Supplies are limited
  • Harvesting crews continue to work through hail/rain damaged crops to pack clean clamshells

Mexico

  • The season is winding down
  • Expect extremely low volume over the next 7 to 10 days
  • Quality will fall as the season wraps up

Florida

  • Supplies are decreasing day over day as the season comes to a close
  • There will be a significant drop in stocks over the next 7 to 10 days
  • Quality variance is causing a two-tiered market
