UPDATE: Rain in the Salinas Valley

October 14, 2016

A rain storm is moving into the Salinas/Watsonville growing region, and will continue as far south as Santa Maria. Salinas/Watsonville rainfall is forecast to be near 1.00 inch today, followed by another 1.00 inch Saturday night through early Monday. Rain totals will diminish as the storm moves south with less than 0.20” of rainfall expected for the Santa Maria area.

  • Markon is packing orders ahead in anticipation of the storm; harvesting and loading delays will occur
  • Rain, followed by a heat spike next week, will likely reduce bell pepper, lettuce, strawberry, and tender leaf supplies currently being grown in the region; expect a significant impact on quality and shelf-life
  • Prices may be higher on Monday
