UPDATE: Rain in California Growing Regions
April 05, 2018
Rain is forecast for California’s Salinas and San Joaquin Valley growing regions beginning tomorrow, Friday, April 6 and persisting through Saturday, April 7. Expected totals range from one to two inches.
- Rain in both regions will create challenges and delays as growers are transitioning from Huron to Salinas
- Romaine supplies continue to be most affected as the Huron season is winding down and Salinas harvesting is starting in a limited capacity
- While rain will help with plant growth, erratic weather patterns will impact quality and shelf-life for lettuce and baby leaf items
- Crews will harvest and pack ahead of schedule to fill orders for early next week
