UPDATE: Planned Labor Demonstrations on Monday, May 1
May 01, 2017
Labor unions and organizers are planning marches, demonstrations, and rallies to occur on Monday, May 1 effecting farm labor and other industries reliant on immigrant labor.
- In past years, May 1 has been a day of bringing attention to worker rights, but due to limited participation by laborers, it has not significantly impacted harvest, shipping, and production
- This year’s demonstrations will be more organized and widespread due to increased focus on labor here in the US and in recent news
- Markon has taken precaution by working with growers to harvest early (including Sunday) to ensure orders are covered
- Potential loading delays may occur on Monday, May 1 as a result of reduced crews and personnel
