UPDATE: Oranges

July 06, 2017

Markon First Crop and Markon Essentials Valencia Oranges are sporadic; packer label supplies are being substituted as needed. The market continues to rise. Prices are climbing due to extremely low volume this season.

  • Many growers have harvested 50% or more of their 2017 Valencia crop
  • Limited harvesting and packing due to the holiday has reduced availability this week
  • 72-hour lead time is highly encouraged through September due to tight supplies and reduced packing hours
  • Arrivals of offshore oranges to the East and West Coasts are increasing
  • Offshore oranges from Australia, Chile, Morocco, South Africa, and Uruguay will be necessary to meet summer and fall demand
    • Chilean Navels are available for loading on the West Coast; limited quantities of Moroccan Valencias are on the East Coast market
    • Imports are dominated by 88-count and larger sizes and fancy grade; fruit will have PLU stickers
    • Prices are higher than those for domestic Valencias
