UPDATE: Onions

Limited supplies of Markon First Crop (MFC) Red and Yellow Onions remain available in the northwest.    New crop, fresh-run MFC Red and Yellow Onions in California and Texas are being shipped.

Idaho, Oregon and Washington

  • Storage crop MFC Red and Yellow Onions from Idaho and Oregon will be depleted by the end of this week
  • In Washington, MFC Yellow Onions will remain available through the end of May, however Red Onion supplies will end this week 
  • Remaining storage stocks are small in size, dominated by medium and jumbo sizes
  • Expect diminishing quality in the remaining storage shipments
    • Onions will have golden, cured skins, but may be softer than early and mid-season stocks
    • Problems may include occasional internal decay, mold, and multiple centers/hearts

California

  • Fresh-run MFC Red and Yellow Onions are readily available
  • Packer label white onions are also being shipped
  • Fresh-run onions will have feathery skins and light color/exterior skins compared to Northwest storage onions

South Texas

  • Fresh-run MFC Texas-grown onions will run through the end of May  
  • Good supplies of all colors and sizes are available 
  • Jumbo yellow No. 2 onions are not available in Texas due to a federal marketing order

New Mexico

  • MFC Red and Yellow Onions will hit the market the week of May 21st
