UPDATE: Onions

Markon First Crop (MFC) Red and Yellow Onions are readily available in the Northwest. Limited supplies of fresh-run Texas-grown MFC Red and Yellow Onions will be available at the end of next week. Fresh-run Mexican onions, crossing into South Texas, are also being shipped.
Idaho, Oregon, Utah, and Washington
- MFC Red and Yellow Onions from Idaho, Oregon, and Washington will be on the market through early May

Remaining storage stocks are small in size
- The crop is dominated by medium and jumbo sizes
- Very few super colossal onions will be available
- The white onion season is beginning to wind down and should be depleted by the week of April 16
- Expect diminishing quality in storage shipments as the season wraps up
- Onions will have golden, cured skins, but may be softer than early and mid-season onions
- Problems may include occasional internal decay and mold
South Texas
- Fresh-run, Texas-grown onions will have a small profile, mostly yielding medium and jumbo sizes

Medium- and jumbo-size onions also dominate Mexican-grown red, white, and yellow onion stocks
- Onions are firm, with occasional mechanical bruising and scarring from harvesting equipment
- Fresh-run onions will have feathery skins and light color/exterior skins compared to Northwest storage onions
- Jumbo yellow No. 2 onions are not available in Texas due to a federal marketing order
California
- MFC Red and Yellow Onions will become available the last week of April
- The region is experiencing ideal weather conditions; a large size profile dominated by jumbo and colossal sizes is expected
New Mexico
- MFC Red and Yellow Onions are forecast to hit the market in early May
