Markon First Crop (MFC) Red, White, and Yellow Onions are readily available in the Northwest. Limited supplies of Texas-grown MFC Red, White, and Yellow Onions will enter the market next week. Fresh-run Mexican onions, crossing into South Texas, are also being shipped.

  • Remaining storage stocks are small in size and dominated by medium and jumbo sizes; very few super colosssal onions will be available
  • Expect lower quality in storage shipments as the season wraps up
    • Onions will have golden, cured skins, but may be softer than usual and/or exhibit double-centered cores
    • Occasional detection of internal decay and mold are also anticipated at this time of the year
    • Please see the photos attached

South Texas

  • Red, white, and yellow crops are dominated by small sizes (medium and jumbo onions)
  • Mexican onions are firm, with occasional mechanical bruising and scarring from harvesting equipment
  • Fresh-run onions will have feathery skins and light color/exterior skins compared to Northwest storage onions (pictures are attached)
  • Jumbo yellow No. 2 onions are not available in Texas due to a federal marketing order

California

  • MFC Red, White, and Yellow Onions will become available the last week of April
  • The region is experiencing ideal weather conditions; a large size profile dominated by jumbo and colossal sizes is expected
