Extremely high temperatures, reaching into the 100s, will reduce onion size and overall volume in California’s San Joaquin Valley and Southern New Mexico. Prices will climb.

• Markon First Crop (MFC) Yellow Super Colossal and Colossal Onions will be most damaged by the heat; high temperatures slow growth and lead to more mechanical defects during the production process
• MFC Red, White, and Yellow Jumbo and Medium Onions will remain readily available 
• All trucks will follow onion sheds’ transit temperature recommendation to maintain quality  
• Airflow is key to preserving shelf-life and deterring mold, especially upon arrival
