Update: Onions

Northwest storage inventory for Markon First Crop (MFC) Onions is diminishing. Demand is steady; however, prices have inched up as the end of the season nears.
Idaho, Oregon, and Washington
- MFC Red and Yellow Onions will be available in Idaho and Oregon through late April

MFC Red and Yellow Onions from Washington will be available through the first week of May
- Remaining red onion volume is sufficient
- Yellow stocks are starting to tighten
- White onion supplies are nearly depleted

Expect lower quality in storage shipments as the season winds down
- Onions will have golden, cured skins, but may be softer than usual and/or exhibit double-centered cores
- Occasional detection of internal decay and mold are also anticipated this time of the year
South Texas
- MFC Red, White, and Yellow Onion supplies will be sporadic over the next few weeks
- Prices are beginning to inch up
- Spring/fresh-run onions will have feathery skins and light color/exterior skin compared to Northwest storage onions
California
- Limited supplies of MFC Yellow Onions will become available next week

The season for MFC Red and White Onions will start the week of April 24
- Size will be dominated by large—mainly jumbo, colossal, and super colossal sizes
- Medium onions will be tight all season
New Mexico
- MFC Red, White, and Yellow Onions are forecast to hit the market in mid-May
