UPDATE: OFFSHORE PORT DELAYS
January 29, 2021
Ports of entry into Southern California and Southern Florida have experienced unloading delays impacting supplies of several offshore commodities, including: blueberries, cantaloupe, honeydew, French beans, grapes, mangos, and pineapples.
- The majority of these stocks are being sourced offshore and imported into the U.S. via boat
-
Arrivals into the U.S. have been sporadic due to COVID-related port delays
- Covid has caused labor shortages and unloading delays of Central and South American crops at the Port of Long Beach, California
- Delays are averaging five to seven days and may reduce quality and shelf-life
- Some suppliers are shuttling product from the East Coast and Texas to fill West Coast demand
- Poor weather this week, including fog, wind, and high swells, have also presented challenges and delays for ships docking in Long Beach
- Expect tighter-than-normal supplies and sporadic availability over the next several weeks
