UPDATE: Melons
June 12, 2017
Cantaloupe and honeydew melon supplies will be limited over the next three weeks as the Imperial Valley growing region winds down spring production. Prices will rise as growers transition to California’s San Joaquin Valley region.
- Markon First Crop Cantaloupe and Honeydew Melons will be sporadic over the next three weeks
- Small fruit (15- to 18-count cantaloupes and 8- and 9-count honeydews) will be especially limited
- Fewer acres were planted in Bakersfield and Huron, California due to increased water costs; expect limited stocks as growers transition to the Westside district
- California’s Westside season (melons grown on the west side of the San Joaquin Valley stretching from Bakersfield to Turlock) is on track to start by July 4
