UPDATE: Limes
March 08, 2017
Lime prices will remain elevated for the next one to two months as harvesting in Veracruz, Mexico begins the lowest production period of the year.
- Markon First Crop Limes are available from Mexico (into McAllen, Texas)
- Expect high markets from late March through early May as both the labor force and crop yields fall short of industry demand
- Extreme labor shortages are expected during Mexico’s Holy Week (April 9-15) which will in turn limit harvesting windows and reduce shipments into South Texas
- Quality is good, but as current stocks diminish, fruit will require more sorting for problems such as discoloration and scarring
- Large sizes (110- to 150-count fruit) are extremely limited; smaller sizes (230- to 250-count limes) will dominate stocks
