UPDATE: Lime Drought
August 23, 2019
Prices are escalating; supplies are extremely limited. Severe drought conditions and warm weather in the growing regions of Veracruz and Tabasco, Mexico have reduced overall supply.
- Limes are experiencing a shortage due to prolonged drought conditions in Mexico over the past several months
-
Lack of rain has produced a much smaller crop profile than normal
- Large sizes 110- through 200-count fruit are extremely tight, with very few available
- The crop is dominated by small-size fruit (250- through 275-count stocks)
- Flexibility in size will be needed for the next several weeks to fill orders
- Quality has been affected due to high temperatures and lack of water; yellowing and dehydration are concerns
- Expect tight supplies and high prices until mid- to late September
