UPDATE: Lemons

September 01, 2016

Domestic lemon stocks are tightening as the industry wraps up the Southern California season. The current crop is producing very few small-size lemons (140-, 165-, and 200-count fruit). Fancy and choice grades, as well as 140-count and smaller sizes are in a demand-exceeds-supply situation. Imported lemons from Chile and Mexico are being substituted as needed, but small sizes are extremely limited in those areas too. New crop Arizona/California desert supplies will begin shipping the week of September 12. Volume will rise by late September/early October.

  • Markon First Crop and Markon Essentials Lemons are sporadic; packer label is being substituted as needed
  • Stocks are decreasing as the Southern California crop winds down
  • Fancy and choice grades, as well as 140-, 165-, and 200-count sizes are extremely tight; demand exceeds supply
  • Flexibility on sizes, grades, loading dates, and pick up locations may be necessary to ensure order coverage for the next three to four weeks
  • The first shipments of new crop Arizona/California desert supplies are expected the week of September 12 in Yuma, Arizona and/or Coachella Valley, California
  • Small sizes will increase when new crop supplies ramp up in late September/early October
